From October 14th – 21st 2018, roundabout 1400 metal fans and 28 bands celebrated the first edition of Full Metal Holiday in Mallorca, the balearic island in the Mediterranean sea.
No sangria buckets or German Schlager music, but battle vests and loud guitars - the name says it all: Full Metal Holiday was a unique concept holiday which literally calls for a repeat! Bands, organizers and guests were more than happy after spending 7 days and nights at the Iberostar Club Cala Barca, a 4-star resort with direct beach access, 8 different pools and all inclusive accommodation.
Besides the live shows of the bands, the additional program offered meet&greets, a soccer cup or metal yoga. Another attraction for all guests was the huge sports area with a soccer field, several tennis courts and a diving school.
The Wacken Foundation, which also had a booth at the hotel area, was able to collect donations for the victims of the severe storm in Mallorca in mid October. The event organizers raised the amount up to 10,000 €.
Full Metal Holiday: Destination Mallorca is not a simply a vacation with hard music. Guests, crew members and bands experienced a week together without a backstage area or other barriers and almost every gig ended with a collective aftershow party.
Holger Hübner, one of the organizers, is more than amazed: “The planned concept has worked. The weather, the many offers of the Iberostar Club Cala Barca as well as the proximity to the artists, were very well received by the fans. Also our bands, the crew and the staff of the Iberostar were more than enthusiastic and are looking forward to the future!"
The attending musicians were also full of praise.
Metal queen Doro Pesch says: „I would book the vacation in any case. This is Metal and you are among like-minded people. New bands meet traditional bands and there is joy everywhere. It was awesome here - Full Metal Holiday was definitely worth it!"
Alan Robert of Life of Agony adds: „It’s small, personal and very exciting, not like it is at big shows – phantastic!!
Tony Dolan of Venom Inc. is also happy: „It’s wonderful here, a great get-together, everyone has so much fun. Move your ass over here next time, you’ll love it, i swear!“
The following bands played live on 2 different stages, the pool stage and the beach stage:
